The Mediterranean Horse Union aims to celebrate the historical and cultural commonality of the countries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea area, promoting the development of friendly relations among member states and fostering collaboration in the equestrian sector through the enhancement of racing horse breeds, the dissemination of values, culture, traditions, and the prestige of horse racing worldwide, the promotion of respect for the horse in competitive activities, and its well-being within communities. The Association promotes the exchange of information among its Members on the technical development of infrastructure serving the equestrian sector, professional training, the health and safety of sector operators, the strengthening of regulations concerning: race safety and regularity, sports justice, horse health and anti-doping efforts, as well as innovation and research in the fields of horse racing and betting.

The Mediterranean Horse Union is the organizing body of the Mediterranean Championship, a circuit for Jockeys and Drivers that touches ports and cities throughout the area in an ideal journey between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. It is an example of what can be achieved in southern Europe, activating dialogue and collaboration among peoples different in language and citizenship, but united by a millennia-old civilization, to transform the Mediterranean from a sea of borders into a basin of contacts and cooperation among peoples in the fields of culture, social exchange, and sport. With the Championship, the Union has managed to create a neutral meeting place, the result of everyone's work through a shared passion for horses and horse racing, which provides a space for dialogue among people of different nationalities, cultures, and histories who build and share an event in full mutual respect. The Championship, beyond the sporting results, also allows for the perpetuation of a type of hospitality much more authentic than the paternalistic idea we have of it today: here, hospitality is a reciprocal exchange among equals, where those who host today will be hosted tomorrow, something missing from our cultural society and which proves truly useful on the path to dialogue among people and cultures.

The organization brings together, under the banner of a shared passion for horses, not only nations that are profoundly different from each other in terms of development level, economic structure, and political system, but also countries that have been opposed in very recent conflicts: Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia, which together organized three stages of the Mediterranean Championship, restoring their level of cooperation and brotherhood to what it was before the bloody Balkan war. The action of the Mediterranean Horse Union aims to generate aggregation even beyond the equestrian world, creating relationships that involve, in addition to horsemen, the actual communities and their public institutions. The days reserved for the Mediterranean Championship trials are opportunities to open the racetracks to the community and to develop collaboration among peoples, starting from the world of horse racing and extending to the fields of culture, history, tourism, and the economy.

The Association has initiated the process for the submission of the multinational candidacy dossier for the inscription of the cultural contribution of the horse to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This process, based on collective research and documentation work on the cultural role of the horse in the history, art, traditions, and daily life of the member countries of our Association carried out by cultural institutions and national equestrian authorities, includes activities involving local communities whose culture, customs, and traditions are closely linked to the horse. In this context, the Mediterranean Equestrian Union promotes the drafting of cross-border cooperation projects among Member Countries, for the enhancement and protection of the cultural heritage related to the horse in the Euro-Mediterranean area.
